Check out these exciting courses and continuing education opportunities offered by Educational Outreach this fall.

Beginning German II
6-7:30 p.m.
Thursdays from Sept. 13– Nov. 8 
Cost: $99

This class builds on beginning German language skills. Participants will enrich their conversational skills with an increased stress on speaking skills and presentations.

Introduction to 3D Modeling and Manufacturing
9 a.m.-Noon
Saturdays from Sept. 15–Nov. 3
Cost: $125

This course will give participants an introduction to 2D and 3D computer aided drafting, Fusion 360 and SolidWorks software, as well as an introduction to design concepts and using a 3D printer. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with the software and 3D printer. Cost includes one roll of filament for 3D printing.

In Search of Wellness: The Wholeness of Health
6-7:30 p.m.
Tuesdays from Sept. 18–Nov. 6 
Cost: $49

Are you living with the vitality and energy you desire in your life? Did you know there is more to wellness and your well-being than just exercising and eating well? Wellness is multi-faceted and focuses on the interrelatedness of many aspects of your life, with the emphasis on the wholeness of you and ultimately your health.

Dungeons and Dragons: Learn to Play
5:30-7:30 p.m.
Tuesdays from Sept. 18–Oct. 9 
Cost: $59 ($67 with parking)

Learn the basics of playing Dungeons & Dragons, the oldest and most popular role-playing game in the world! We start by learning how to create your own character, then learn the basics of play. The course includes a short adventure to get the hang of how the game works. The 5th edition of the game will be used.

Ayurveda: The Science of Personalized, Natural Healthcare
5:30-7 p.m.
Wednesdays, Sept. 19–Oct. 24
Cost: $49

The term “Ayurveda” translates as “the Science of Life.” Traditionally, it partners with Yoga to provide a basis of personalized and natural healthcare. This class will explore the basics of Ayurveda theory including personal constitution, seasonal changes, lifestyle and daily regimen suggestions.

Conversational Japanese
7-8:30 p.m.
Thursdays from Sept. 20–Nov. 1
Cost: $89

This course is designed to help those students with little or no previous experience with the Japanese language. Participants will learn basic introductions, greetings and vocabulary helpful in describing common items and experiences. Pronunciation will be practiced, and basic Japanese conversation will be introduced along with learning Japanese culture. No textbook is needed for the course. The instructor will provide handouts as needed.

The "Immigrants In Our Midst - One Nation" Conference is designed to assist professionals interested in working with immigrant population in the surrounding Metro East area. Continuing Education Units are available.

Sign up for a Faculty/Staff Green Dot Education Session

Green Dot is a comprehensive violence prevention program with objectives to decrease the likelihood of dating and domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault.

The education session's intent is to train faculty and staff to endorse, model and support two Green Dot values: (1) power-based personal violence is not tolerated in our campus community and (2) everyone will do their part to prevent violence.

Nominate a Champion for Diversity

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion invites the SIUE community to nominate a faculty or staff member for the 2018-2019 SIUE Champion for Diversity Award.

This award is presented to a faculty or staff member who has demonstrated an exemplary level of dedication to SIUE’s mission of fostering equal opportunity, positive interactions with students, staff and faculty, and who respects and values differing backgrounds and points of view within SIUE.  

Nominations are now open and should be received by Wednesday, Oct. 17. The Champion for Diversity Award will be recognized annually during December commencement and will consist of a plaque and $500 donated to a University diversity and inclusion project of the recipient’s choice.
