SIUE Suicide Prevention Conference, Sept. 12

Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to register for the all-day Suicide Prevention Conference:

The conference is a collaboration between iCare and campus partners intended to further knowledge, skills and abilities in understanding contributing factors to suicide and existing best prevention practices.

The registration fee is $80 for faculty, staff and community members and $10 for students. Lunch is included and six CEU opportunities are available for social workers and nurses.

Active Minds and ICare Partner to Bring Active Minds PostSecretU to Campus

Students, faculty and staff are invited to create anonymous postcards during a presentation by Frank Warren, creator of the popular PostSecret blog. The postcards will be displayed:

Active Minds PostSecretU is designed to build community and give students a forum for expressing thoughts and experiences that they might otherwise hide. Active Minds’ mission is to eliminate the stigma around discussing and seeking help for mental health issues.

Active Minds PostSecretU is an Active Minds program created in cooperation and with the support of Warren. 

Warren will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Meridian Ballroom as a culmination of PostSecretU and the suicide prevention conference, being held on campus earlier in the day.

Nominate an SIUE Student of the Month

The Kimmel Student Involvement Center, in partnership with the Edwardsville Rotary, is pleased to accept nominations for the SIUE Student of the Month.

Individuals selected for this award will be recognized at an upcoming Rotary meeting and at the annual Kimmel Leadership Awards Ceremony in April.

SIUE students can be nominated by students, faculty or staff. No self-nominations will be considered.

Applications are accepted on an on-going basis, and should be received by the 16th of the month to be considered for that month's award. Any nominees not selected for one month, will be considered for the following months.

Awards will be given for September through April each academic year.

Candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:
· High academic standards
· Campus involvement and activities
· Service to others on and off campus
· Leadership within their academic area or within an organization
· Demonstrated ability to promote spirit and pride at SIUE
