Juliet Gray named Library and Information Services Interim Assistant Dean

Interim Dean of Library and Information Services Lydia Jackson has appointed Juliet Gray as the interim assistant dean of Lovejoy Library.

Juliet assumed this responsibility effective July 1. Gray will manage matters related to all LIS civil service employees, coordinate assessment efforts, assist in all efforts of strategic direction and serve in the absence of the dean.

Gray received her master’s in library science in 2003. She has been a valued faculty member since joining LIS in 2007. While on a successful path to tenure, she made a decision to leave SIUE in 2012 to address family commitments. In 2016, she returned to Lovejoy Library.

Gray earned a bachelor’s in English from Eastern Illinois University in 1996, a master’s in English from Case Western Reserve University in 1999, and an MLS in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 2003.

“Ms. Gray fully understands the complexity of an administrative role and is highly suited for this position, because she understands the needs and dynamics of what it means to be a 21st century library,” said Jackson. “She brings a wealth of relevant knowledge along with insight into how to interweave the best practices of librarianship with the missions and visions of both the library and University as a whole."

"Ms. Gray will be invaluable as we transition through a strategic planning process," added Jackson. "While she is analytical in making decisions, she is also open and engaged in the art of listening to other perspectives.”

In addition to her responsibilities as interim assistant dean, Gray will continue to serve as the health sciences librarian and supervise components of Research Commons.

Blackboard Ally Working Sessions for Faculty

Faculty, have you seen this icon in your Blackboard courses?

It is one of the new Blackboard Ally indicators for accessibility. Making course content accessible to all learners not only makes for better course design, but it also helps to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Want to turn those red icons to green? ITS has scheduled two-hour working sessions from now until the end of November. Members of the ITS Instructional Design & Learning Technologies team will be on hand, if assistance is needed.

Participants are expected to come to these working sessions with prior knowledge of how Blackboard Ally works, so time can be spent on improving course content. If you are not familiar with how Blackboard Ally works, please watch this overview and review related materials. Visit this form to register for the sessions.
