Welcome Visiting Scholars from Northwest Normal University

Please welcome the following five Visiting Scholars to SIUE from Northwest Normal University (NWNU), Lanzhou, China.

The scholars are participants in the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior’s (SEHHB) International Training Program in Pedagogy (ITPP) during fall semester. They will observe in courses in the SEHHB, Schools of Business and Engineering, and the College of Arts and Sciences.

Ping Huang is an associate professor in the College of Computer Science and Engineering. Her research interests include database application technology and data science. While at SIUE, she looks forward to experiencing the differences between American and Chinese teaching styles, and learning about American culture.

Fusu Zhao is a lecturer in the Institute of Philosophy and Politics. Her research interests include ancient Greek and Roman ethics, applied ethics, and the relationship between art and truth. At SIUE, she looks forward to learning about the theory of philosophical education in-depth and the practice of higher education in the U.S.

Ronghua Zhang is a lecturer in the School of Psychology. Her areas of interest include social cognition and teaching social psychology, developmental psychology, and learning psychology. During her semester at SIUE, she looks forward to learning about the psychological differences and similarities between China and the U.S.

Zhengyan Nie is a professor in the College of Economics. His research interests include industrial transfer, regional economic development and macroeconomic policy. At SIUE, he looks forward to acquiring in-depth knowledge of modern pedagogical concepts and practices of higher education in the U.S., and gaining a broader knowledge of the latest progress in modern economics.

Dongsheng Wang is a lecturer in the Department of Special Education. His research interests include teaching children with visual impairments, special education teacher education and inclusive education in China. At SIUE, he is interested in observing pedagogy in the areas of assessment, individualized education programs and assistive technology for students with disabilities.

Please Note These Registration Reminders

The following is a short list of dates that are important to remember for registration:

  • Today-Friday, Aug. 24: Instructor signature is required to add a class
  • Monday, Aug. 27-Friday, Aug. 31: Instructor and department chair signatures are both required to add a class
  • Friday, Aug. 31: Last day to add a class
  • Friday, Aug. 31: Last day to drop classes and have tuition and fees removed from billing statement and no entry on the transcript. There will be no reduction in tuition and fees charges when dropping a class after this date.
  • Friday, Oct. 26: Last day to drop classes and receive a grade of W on the transcript

Classes that have a start or end date that differ from the full-term 16 week fall classes have different registration deadlines. Those deadlines can be found in the Class Information box under “Drop Deadlines – Fall 2018” at siue.edu/registrar.

Registration forms can be found under Frequently Requested Forms under “Registration Add – Drop – Withdraw” on the Registrar’s website.

When preparing for fall classes, don’t forget the Career Development Center gives presentations on career-related topics.

A career counselor is able to visit classes to give presentations on the following topics, including but not limited to:

  • Resumes
  • Interviewing
  • Networking
  • Job Search
  • Co-ops and Internships
  • LinkedIn
  • Career Assessments
  • Preparing for a Career Fair
  • Social Media
  • Professional Attire and Etiquette

Presentations can be done 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday–Friday or by request. We will do our best to accommodate all requests. However, there will be times when we have limited staff availability.

If you would like your class to use our services (i.e. mock interviews, assessments, resume approvals, etc.), please notify us in advance that your students will be making appointments, as well as description of the class assignment and name of the class.

Join us for the Fall 2018 Safe Zone/LGBT Community & Ally Welcome Reception.

Morris University Center, Hickory/Hackberry Room

This event is sponsored by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Refreshments will be provided.

The primary purpose of this reception is to welcome new and continuing students, faculty and staff members who are members of our LGBT community on campus. We invite all Allies to attend and contribute to this effort. We will share the collective accomplishments of Safe Zone and its allies over the last year and will highlight what is to come.
