University Housing is Looking for Faculty Fellows

Greetings SIUE Faculty! University Housing invites you to volunteer with the University Housing Faculty Fellows program. The Faculty Fellows program is a collaborative effort between the Office of the Provost, the Office of Student Affairs and University Housing. Research has shown that the more contact that occurs between faculty and students both inside and outside the classroom, the more likely students are to develop in college and to be satisfied with their college experience (Astin, 1993).

Student development and satisfaction are in direct accordance with the SIUE Academic Affairs Imperative of Student Success and consequently retention.

So, how can this benefit you? Benefits include:

  • Improved teaching methods from gaining a better understanding of life for today’s college students
  • Documented community service toward tenure requirements
  • Opportunities to share research with students and potentially recruit undergraduate research assistants
  • Opportunities to demonstrate that learning is not limited to the classroom

The mission described above may seem challenging, so we have created a simple way for faculty to incorporate involvement by allowing you to choose events that interest you and fit in your schedule.

Participation in the Faculty Fellow program consists of the approximately 10 hours per semester in the following commitments:

  • Attending Faculty Fellow training
  • Assisting with Move-In in August
  • Developing a communicative relationship with the RA(s) of your communities
  • Attending social events like bowling, BBQ’s, educational programs, and community meetings

For more information about the program, visit siue.edu/housing/living-learning/faculty-fellows and to complete the online application (link to the application form is at the bottom of the page).

As a Faculty Fellow you can truly make it your own experience.

If you have questions please feel free to contact Rex Jackson at 650-4251 or rjackso@siue.edu.

If you would like to volunteer for this amazing process and show your SIUE pride while welcoming new students, please sign up at the following link, signupgenius.com/go/20f084da4a628a0f94-volunteers

Directions on your role and more information will be sent out by Monday, Aug. 13. Please email Rex Jackson at rjackso@siue.edu with any questions about this opportunity.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

* Returning students move into Evergreen Hall and Cougar Village on Saturday, Aug. 18.
