Please join us in congratulating Trish as the Employee of the Month:

You can also send Trish a congratulatory email at tohm@siue.edu.

“Ms. Trish as she is better known to the parents and children of the ECC, is a remarkable teacher and valued member of the SIUE community," said Keith Becherer, director of Campus Recreation and ECC student parent. "Her ability to adapt lesson plans based on the interests of the children is conducive to learning. Her classroom management also instills confidence each day that lets me go to the office and be fully dedicated to my work knowing my children are in a great place."

“Working at the Early Childhood Center has allowed me to gain so many amazing memories with so many wonderful people. My children, their families, and the incredible and supportive staff make going to school each day an absolute joy," said Scheibal. "It is hard to explain the rewarding feeling that I have as I watch each child in my class learn and grow. I also wish to show my appreciation to my kiddos and their families, for without them I would not love what I do!”

Questions or comments should be directed to Jen Oates-Blair at joatesb@siue.edu or 650-2127.

Today is the Last Day to Vote for Digital East St. Louis in NSF's STEM for All Video Showcase

SIUE’s Jessica DeSpain, PhD, associate professor and co-director of the IRIS Center, and Matt Johnson, STEM Center Instructional Designer will be featured in the 2018 STEM for All Video Showcase funded by the National Science Foundation.

Now in its fourth year, the annual showcase will feature more than 200 innovative projects aimed at improving STEM learning and teaching, which have been funded by the NSF. DeSpain and Johnson will highlight the University’s transformative Digital East St. Louis project.

The online event concludes today at stemforall2018.videohall.com with the theme “Transforming the Educational Landscape.” During the weeklong event, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and members of the public are invited to view the short feature videos, discuss them with the presenters online and vote for their favorites.

The SIUE presentation on Digital East St. Louis will share outcomes of the three-year project that engaged 6th-9th grade students in the creation of a content-rich, digital humanities website about the history and culture of their city. It was a collaborative project between the SIUE STEM Center and IRIS Center for the Digital Humanities.

Please Donate to the Career Development Center's Professional Attire Collection

Each year we have students that are in need of professional attire for interviews, career fairs, networking events and practicum/co-op/internship experiences.

Unfortunately, not all students have the resources to obtain the appropriate attire for these occasions. This can decrease students’ opportunities and self-esteem.

You can help! Ready to do a little cleaning in your closet?

The Career Development Center is planning to take donations of professional attire items through July 13 in preparation for the fall recruiting season.

We will be accepting both men’s and women’s attire. All items need to be in good condition, clean and ready to be given to students. We are hoping to get a variety of sizes and options, so we can make this service available to any student in need.

Items can include:
• Suits
• Dresses
• Skirts
• Dress Pants/Khakis
• Sweater sets
• Polos
• Blouses
• Belts
• Ties
• Anything that could be worn for a professional event with employers
• Anything that would be appropriate as a starting point for a professional wardrobe

Items can be dropped off at the Career Development Center (CDC), located in the basement of the Student Success Center, room 0281. Please drop off items during regular business hours from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

For more information, contact Carrie Smolar at 650-3708.
