Eighth Annual Children's Art Exhibit Continues

The SIUE Early Childhood Center is hosting its 8th annual children's art exhibit in connection with the National Association for the Education of Young Children's (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child.

On display is the artists' work for family and friends through Friday, April 20 in the Morris University Center Gallery, located on the second floor.

Edwardsville’s Land of Goshen Community Market is collaborating with SIUE through the new food sustainability consortium and the Edwardsville/SIUE Community Destination Committee to host the farmers’ market to campus.

In addition to local produce, the SIUE Goshen Farmer’s Market will feature vendors with meat, eggs, flowers, baked goods, honey and soap. Local artists will also be selling their creative works.

IPHEC and Purchasing Host Vendor Show, April 18

The Illinois Public Higher Education Cooperative (IPHEC) and Purchasing are sponsoring a vendor show:

These vendors have been awarded IPHEC contracts and offer discounted pricing to SIUE. Some of the areas that the suppliers will represent include: computers, promotional products, furniture, scientific, medical, equipment rental, office supplies and audio visual.

Free boxed lunches will be available to attendees, while supplies last.

Sherrie Senkfor to Speak at University Staff Senate Executive Meeting, April 19

The University Staff Senate's meetings are open to constituency members. Non-senate members can come and listen. Participation depends on the agenda being discussed and/or prior approval from the president of the University Staff Senate.

SIUE Human Resources Director Sherrie Senkfor will speak at the next University Staff Senate Executive meeting.

Earth Week Activities Continue

SIUE is joining the worldwide observance of Earth Week with informational, enlightening and fun activities leading up to Earth Day on Sunday, April 22.
  • Wednesday, April 18 – BYO Glen Ed and SOS are hosting a screening of “Bag It: Is Your Life Too Plastic?” Attendees will have an opportunity to donate and upcycle T-shirts into reusable shopping bags, from 5-8 p.m. in Fixins’ University Restaurant.
  • Thursday, April 19 – A day in The Gardens at SIUE will allow participants to plant native prairie grass seeds and Bur Oak tree seedlings from 10-11:30 a.m., and 12:30-2 p.m.
  • Friday, April 20 – Eleanor Schumacher, a resource conservationist with the Madison County Soil and Water Conservation District, will lead a program at The Gardens from 12-5 p.m. She will lead a series of discussions and activity on spring flower identification, hold a seed collection competition, discuss pesticide training and certification process, among other things. The fee is $5.
  • Saturday, April 21 – E-Waste Collection Drive from 9 a.m.-noon in the visitor’s lot near the Center for Spirituality and Sustainability.

The Department of Art and Design will present its Seventh Annual Art History Symposium. The keynote speaker is Lea Cline, assistant professor of Art History at Illinois State University. She will speak on the topic, "Art, Illusion, and Control: the Slave and the Roman Villa."

Attend Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan Discussions

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion invites all students, faculty and staff to the Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan discussions.

The purpose of these sessions is to gather feedback on our new seven-year Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan goals, objectives and strategies.

Individuals from the various areas responsible for implementing the Plan will be present to discuss and answer questions.

STEM Job Fair at NCERC, April 24

According to the USDA, 1.1 million jobs will exist in the U.S. bioeconomy by 2030. How will you prepare for this job boom?

The National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center (NCERC) in University Park is hosting a job fair for students with STEM degrees who have already graduated or will graduate in May 2018.

SIUE East St. Louis After School Performing Arts Recital, April 25

The SIUE East St. Louis After School Performing Arts Program will present its recital:

Students will perform on the piano, guitar and chimes. They will also perform West African drumming and dance, jazz, ballet and the Dunham technique.

Student performing range in age from 6-17.

The recital is free.
