University Staff Senate Executive Meeting, Today

The University Staff Senate's meetings are open to constituency members. Non-senate members can come and listen. Participation depends on the agenda being discussed and/or prior approval from the president of the University Staff Senate. The next University Staff Senate Executive meeting will be held:

Staff Senate Executive meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month. Staff Senate meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month, with the exception of July during which there is no full Senate meeting.

Conserving Built Heritage, Attend Today's Presentation

The School of Engineering's Department of Construction invites you to a presentation by Beril Bicer-Simsir, associate scientist at Getty Conservation Institution (GCI).

"CONSERVING BUILT HERITAGE: Built Heritage Research Laboratory at the Getty Conservation Institute"

The GCI, being one of the four institutions of J. Paul Getty Trust, is a private and non-profit institution that has a long-term interest in the development and application of scientific skills to improve conservation of the world's built heritage. This talk will provide a summary of key research projects undertaken by Built Heritage Research Laboratory (BHRL) at the GCI aiming to respond to the urgent need to understand the behavior of historic and intervention materials and to aid conservators in the development and implementation of appropriate preventive and active interventions.

March 16 is the Deadline for this Month's Rotary/Kimmel Student Leader

The Kimmel Student Involvement Center, in partnership with the Edwardsville Rotary, is pleased to accept nominations for an SIUE Student of the Month.

Individuals selected for this award will be recognized at an upcoming Rotary meeting and at the annual Kimmel Leadership Awards Ceremony in April.

SIUE students can be nominated by students, faculty or staff. No self-nominations will be considered. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis, and should be received by the 16th of the month to be considered for that month's award. Any nominees not selected for one month, will be considered for the following months. Awards will be given for September through April each academic year.

Candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:

· High academic standards
· Campus involvement and activities
· Service to others on and off campus
· Leadership within their academic area or within an organization
· Demonstrated ability to promote spirit and pride at SIUE

Diplomat-in-Residence Visits SIUE, March 22

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature announces the upcoming visit of Midwest Diplomat-in-Residence Melissa Martínez on Thursday, March 22.

11 a.m. – Presentation on careers in the Department of State.

Martínez holds a master’s in international and public affairs from the University of Columbia. She joined the U.S. Department of State in 2002 and was a Diplomat-in-Residence (DIR) at the Luskin School of Public Affairs Department of Public Policy at UCLA. Since August 2017, she has served as the DIR of the Midwest region.

These events are jointly organized by the Departments of Foreign Languages and Literature and International Studies, as well as the Women’s Studies program.
