The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion invites you to nominate a Phenomenal Woman at SIUE or in the community. 

The awardees and nominators will be invited to attend a luncheon honoring and celebrating women from all walks of life who have made contributions to diversity and inclusion at SIUE, the region, the nation and the world.

Nominations must be received no later than Monday, March 5, and awardees will be notified via email by Friday, March 9.

WSIE is the 50-thousand watt radio station which has been serving this region from our campus since September 1970. The station delivers a distinctive blend of jazz, smooth jazz, R&B and the Blues, blended to create “the Sound!”

Students, faculty and staff are invited to bring lunch and join the Brown Bag Series in discussing odd and eccentric behaviors.
• Explore student behavior from a biopsychosocial perspective
• Differentiate behaviors that are idiosyncratic from those that are concerning
• Discuss ways to communicate effectively with student who present as “odd”
• Discuss ways to refer students who present with alarming/concerning behavior

Join us as you advance your understanding, learn how to respond appropriately, and learn about resources.

“Sing & Play” 4-Week Class for 1- and 2-year-olds

Get ready to sing, play and move with your little one in this high-energy music class designed to be just right for children under two years of age. This new Kindermusik curriculum focuses on your child's beginning movement, helping to build the muscles your baby needs to walk, and vocal development, helping to nurture your child’s speaking and singing voice. With a mix of both parent-child joint activities and child-focused activities, you’ll be able to join right in on all the singing and dancing while also getting the chance to observe how your older baby or toddler learns on her own. 

April theme: Around the House
Home is where the heart is, but also where the cooking, eating, playtime, bathtime and pets are! Around the House makes its way through the typical routines and day-parts, from active games and play-alongs to calming, rocking lullabies.

Tuition is $75 and is due by Thursday, March 8 for April class dates below:

Blackboard Ally is Coming!

The offices of Educational Outreach, Disability Support Services, and Information Technology Services are collaborating to bring Blackboard Ally to your Blackboard courses. 

Blackboard Ally is a product that provides alternate formats for uploaded PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and HTML content, in order to meet the needs of diverse learners. For example, it can convert a text document to an audio file. It also assists faculty in making content more accessible by pointing out where formatting can be improved or providing alternative file types.

Dr. Paul Rasmussen, the first recipient of the Dreikurs Visiting Scholar Fellowship from the Department of Psychology, will present "Why is Adlerian/Dreikursian Thinking Relevant Today?"

Rasmussen is an accomplished scholar and teacher and an expert in the study and practice of Adlerian Psychology.

Rasmussen will present key concepts of Adler-Dreikurs theory and practice, which focus on the holistic and socially-embedded nature of humans, and the belief that their emotions and motivations are goal-directed. He will consider these questions: If humans could reset and fix all the problems of life, what realities in terms of good ideas would persist? What resources would we consider the most optimal to face life realities? What constitutes a good idea in discussion of the human experience?

Registration is encouraged, but not required.

Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion Educational Culture Tour

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion would like to invite you to join us on our second annual Educational Culture Tour!

On Monday, April 16, we will travel by bus to Brooklyn/Lovejoy, Ill. —one of the oldest black incorporated towns in America—to learn about the relationship between SIUE (specifically Lovejoy Library), abolitionist Elijah P. Lovejoy, and the nearby community of Brooklyn/Lovejoy. Faculty tour guide Associate Professor Prince Wells III will share insight as someone who grew up in Brooklyn/Lovejoy. 

Students, faculty and staff are all welcome and encouraged to attend. We will begin boarding the bus in Hairpin Drive at 8 a.m. and return by 11:30 a.m.
