Deadline is Today to Contribute to Campus Kitchen SIUE Raise the Dough Campaign

Help out the Campus Kitchen at SIUE by participating in the Campus Kitchens Project "Raise the Dough" fundraiser. SIUE is competing with more than 30  Campus Kitchens across the country to see raises the most money.

The competition ends today. Support the Campus Kitchen at SIUE.  

The Campus Kitchen at SIUE relies solely on monetary and in-kind donations to continue fighting hunger in the St. Louis Metro area and we need YOU to help us!

Spring Open Figure Drawing Practice Sessions Offered

Figure Drawing is a time-honored practice of studying the human form as an artistic subject. It engages a professional collaboration between model and art students, in which dynamic poses are held still for various lengths of time in order to capture movement and expression.

Those who practice figure drawing regularly learn the underlying thought and processes that aid in conveying the human form convincingly.

The cost is $6 per session or $30 for all six sessions.

The SIUE Fencing Club will host a Faculty/Staff Fencing Clinic:

No experience is required. The cost is $30, which includes all the loaner equipment you need (or $10 if you have your own gear).

WSIE’s Segue Features Guest Lecturer Edward Ayers, Feb. 25

SIUE’s Department of Historical Studies, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), and the SIUE Emeriti Faculty Association, are honored to welcome Edward Ayers, PhD, a renowned American historian, author, professor and president emeritus at the University of Richmond.

At 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, Ayers will present “Lincoln, Race and Slavery,” at the Department of Historical Studies’ inaugural Abraham Memorial Lincoln Memorial Lecture in the Abbott Auditorium in Lovejoy Library. Parking in Lot A (behind the library) is free to the public after 5 p.m.

On this week’s episode of Segue, the weekly radio program that explores the lives and work of the people at SIUE, CAS Dean Greg Budzban and Erik Alexander, assistant professor of historical studies, have a conversation with Ayers in preparation for his upcoming trip to campus.

Student Awards Available through Phi Kappa Phi, Applications due March 2

The SIUE Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society is offering three awards to students. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 2.

The awards include:
Undergraduate Scholarship: One scholarship of up to $750 (which must be applied to undergraduate or graduate tuition and fees at SIUE) may be awarded. Eligibility requirements: Must be an undergraduate with at least junior standing (60 hours) at the end of the fall semester 2017, must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and must have earned at least 24 semester hours at SIUE by the end of the fall semester 2017. Students with a 100 percent waiver for tuition and fees are not eligible. Please note: Applicants DO NOT have to be PKP members. An additional award of $250 is available if the recipient is a PKP member or an inductee at the April 2018 ceremony.

Undergraduate Paper Contest: Three cash prizes of $200, $100 and $50 will be awarded for papers meeting the criteria. Submissions are to be scholarly essays or research papers on any academic topic that can be understood by a lay audience. This contest is open to ANY SIUE undergraduate.

Graduate Fellowship: Graduating seniors with superior academic and leadership records, who are or will be members of Phi Kappa Phi by the application deadline and who have applied to enroll as a full-time student in a post baccalaureate program of study for the 2018-19 academic year, are eligible to apply. One fellowship award of up to $1,000 will be given through our local chapter, and then this person will be entered into the national contest where 51 fellowships of $5,000 and six fellowships of $15,000 will be awarded (SIUE nominees have won a national award in the past!).

Nominate a Phenomenal Woman for the 4th Annual Luncheon, Deadline March 5

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion invites you to nominate a Phenomenal Woman at SIUE or in the community. The annual Phenomenal Women's Luncheon is held during Women's History Month at SIUE.

The awardees and nominators will be invited to attend a luncheon honoring and celebrating women from all walks of life who have made contributions to diversity and inclusion at SIUE, the region, the nation and the world.
