Book Returns for Textbook Service Through Dec. 17

Fall textbooks must be returned to Textbook Services before 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 or you will be charged for your books.

Textbook Services operating hours:

8 a.m.-6 p.m. Today
8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13
8 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14
8 a.m.-6 p.m.Thursday, Dec. 15
8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16
8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17

You do not need to be there to return your books. A friend or relative may return them and identification is not required for returns.

If you bring five or more canned food items, you can skip the line. If you bring in 10 or more canned food items, you can skip the line and have your books put away.

Host Your Holiday Event at Cougar Lanes

SIUE faculty, staff, departments and student organizations, now is the time to start planning for your holiday party.

Cougar Lanes is the ideal on-campus location to host your event through Friday, Dec. 23.

Your party can reserve space for up to two hours in our facility, which has bowling, pool and table tennis.

Group rates:
Under 25 people -- $50
25-50 people -- $75
More than 50 people -- $100

Holiday packages are designed for organized groups such as Girl Scouts, Boy Souts, a school, church or other clubs.

Workshop to Help Students Deal with Final Exam Stress, Slated Dec.13

SIUE Counseling Services will host its final walk-in stress management workshop to help students cope with the stress of final exams.

The format will include discussions about stress, some guided relaxation techniques, and information about how to incorporate brief relaxation into an already-full schedule.

The workshop is free and will be led by Dr. Jamie Linsin, director of Counseling Services:

1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13 in Student Services Center, room 1202

No registration or appointments are needed to attend.

SIUE Helps United Way with Community Christmas Donation Drive Through Dec. 14

SIUE is participating as a collection site for the United Way’s 27th annual Community Christmas donation drive.

The program, presented by United Way, is collecting items through Wednesday, Dec. 14 for local people in need this holiday season. A donation box is located in the Lobby of Rendleman Hall, and your generosity is greatly appreciated.

This year, the top needs in the community are:

  • New blankets
  • Towels
  • Household items
  • Diapers

Other items requested include:

  • Non-perishable food items
  • New and unwrapped toys for kids of all ages
  • New clothes, coats and winter essentials such as socks, hats, gloves and scarves
  • Baby formula
  • Personal care items

All of the items collected will go to 15 local agencies, who’ve estimated needs this holiday season for more than 8,000 people in the Riverbend community. The participating community agencies are listed on the donation box.

In addition to collecting items, monetary donations are also accepted and will be used to purchase items on the donation list that are in short supply or not collected.

The International Hospitality Program (IHP) at SIUE is hosting its spring semester collection of used household items.

Please consider donating your used household items and furniture to new international students at SIUE. 

Bring donations to the IHP Welcome Reception:
3-5:30 p.m.

Morris University Center, Meridian Ballroom

Students ambassadors and IHP volunteers will be available to assist your unloading any items from your vehicle in Lot B. 

Household items needed:

  • Vacuum cleaners
  • Sheets
  • Blankets/comforters
  • Towels/wash cloths
  • Lamps
  • Microwaves
  • Rice cookers and blenders
  • Kitchen utensils
  • Pots and pans
  • Dishes
  • Silverware
