Kids' Night Out, Dec. 9

The SIUE Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the SIUE Intercollegiate Athletic Department will once again hold their annual Kids’ Night Out event:

6-10 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 9
Vadalabene Center Gymnasium

The cost for the event is $15 for the first child and $5 for each additional child in the same family. Ages four and up are welcome to attend, and the event is open to all. 

Enjoy a night to yourself, while your children enjoy a fun-filled evening with the SIUE student-athletes.

Activities for children will include: board games, basketball, volleyball, movies, snacks, tag, kickball and more!

Support The Gardens at SIUE and Buy Holiday Greenery

The Gardens at SIUE is selling holiday greenery from Lynch Creek Farms to raise funds for support. 

Fall and holiday/winter theme wreaths are available now and can be scheduled for delivery on your desired date. Table centerpieces and tabletop trees are also available.

Wreaths are 26" and 32" and weigh seven-eight pounds.

Celebrate Debbie Brown-Thompson's Retirement, Dec. 12

SIUE Helps United Way with Community Christmas Donation Drive Through Dec. 14

SIUE is participating as a collection site for the United Way’s 27th annual Community Christmas donation drive.

The program, presented by United Way, is collecting items through Wednesday, Dec. 14 for local people in need this holiday season. A donation box is located in the Lobby of Rendleman Hall, and your generosity is greatly appreciated.

This year, the top needs in the community are:

  • New blankets
  • Towels
  • Household items
  • Diapers

Other items requested include:

  • Non-perishable food items
  • New and unwrapped toys for kids of all ages
  • New clothes, coats and winter essentials such as socks, hats, gloves and scarves
  • Baby formula
  • Personal care items

All of the items collected will go to 15 local agencies, who’ve estimated needs this holiday season for more than 8,000 people in the Riverbend community. The participating community agencies are listed on the donation box.

In addition to collecting items, monetary donations are also accepted and will be used to purchase items on the donation list that are in short supply or not collected.

FY18 Vaughnie Lindsay New Investigator Award Program Now Accepting Applications

The Vaughnie Lindsay New Investigator Awards are made to SIUE tenure-track faculty members in order to recognize and support individual programs of research or creative activities. These Awards recognize faculty members whose research or creative activities have the promise of making significant contributions to their fields of study.

Awards are given to up to two junior tenure-track faculty members each year. Each recipient will receive $10,000 from the Graduate School and $2,500 from their unit for a total of $12,500 for a one-year period.

As this is a shared award between the Graduate School and the colleges/schools, applicants are encouraged to discuss their applications with school deans.

Qualified tenure-track faculty members are encouraged to submit proposals by Wednesday, Jan. 4.

SIUE observes the 34th Celebration of the Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.:

The luncheon theme is "Turning Our Darkness into Light: Where Does Change Begin?" and it is a celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

SIUE Meridian Society Requests Proposals for Community-based Projects

The SIUE Meridian Society is seeking proposals for funding (up to $5,000) for an SIUE Community-based project.

The Meridian Society is looking to fund projects that demonstrate a collaborative effort between an SIUE unit and a community organization. SIUE College, Schools, major units, departments and organizations (including student organizations with an SIUE account) are invited to apply for the 2017 Meridian awards.

The Meridian award application/proposal must be submitted and received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
