Employees covered under a State health plan:
Health Service is able to provide flu shots to employees and retirees who are the primary insurer in a State sponsored insurance plan at no charge. Employees must document the last four digits of your social security number, present your university ID and your state health insurance card in order to receive the vaccine at no charge. Retirees must present your state health insurance card and document the last four digits of their social security number in order to receive the vaccine at no charge.

Employees not covered under a State health plan:
Health Service has two options for you this year.

  • You may receive the immunization at a cost of $30 (cash or check) from SIUE Health staff; OR
  • You may receive the vaccine from Gateway Regional Health staff (adjacent to our flu clinic location) on campus. If you choose Gateway, please bring your ID and insurance card to use when completing claim form documentation.

Please plan to wear clothing for easy access to the upper arm injection site.

WALK-IN Flu Shot Clinics will be available in the Lower Level of the Student Success Center. In order for us to continue to provide dedicated nursing service to our students during this time, we will use the meeting rooms close to our clinical office. There will be signs to identify the appropriate place.

Plan Now to Attend Employee Banquet, Oct. 12

The theme for this year's SIUE Employee Banquet, hosted by the University Staff Senate, is “No Time to Siesta, It’s Time to Fiesta!” The banquet will be held:

5 p.m. social hour
6 p.m. dinner
Wednesday, Oct. 12
Morris University Center Meridian Ballroom

Dinner will be a buffet of tortilla chips, flour tortillas, grilled chicken, queso, roasted corn and black beans, refried beans, seasoned rice, pico de gallo, sour cream, shredded lettuce, guacamole and cinnamon crisps. Coffee, iced tea and water will be included, and a cash bar will be available.

There will be a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and the Fiesta alcohol package raffle.

The banquet is open to all staff, faculty and retirees. Guests are welcome and encouraged. The cost is $20 per person.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Staff Senate scholarship, awarded during fall and summer terms for deserving high school graduates or continuing undergraduate students at SIUE. Since the scholarship was first awarded in 1980, more than $40,000 has been awarded to more than 70 students. Also, each student receiving the award has graduated from the University.

We are also seeking donations that can be used for attendance prizes, baskets, raffles or the silent auction. All donations are tax-deductible, and donors will be recognized in the event program. Donations can be dropped off at the Staff Senate office in Rendleman Hall, Room 0103 or in Lovejoy Library, Room 1041 with Anne Hunter. If your donation needs to be picked up, please contact Anne Hunter at 650-3050. Please let us know how you would like your name to appear in the program.

We are also selling advertisement space in the event program book. Advertisements can be informational or offer coupons/discounts to attendees. The costs:

  • $20 for one-quarter page
  • $45 for one-half page
  • $75 for a full page
  • Sponsorships, which will be included in all advertising for the event as well as on the cover of the program, are available for donations of $300 or more.

Ads must be submitted by Wednesday, Oct. 5

For more information, contact Anne Hunter at 618-650-3050 or anhunte@siue.edu.

Please Give to SECA's Charitable Fund Drive

SIUE employees have been very generous in their efforts to support charitable agencies. SECA (State and University Employees Combined Appeal) Charitable Fund Drive provides all employees the opportunity to donate to the charitable causes of their choice to enhance the quality of life for all.

Twelve organizations will be part of this year’s campaign: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Community Shares of Illinois, Community Health Charities, EarthShare, Special Olympics, United Way, United Negro College Fund, Global Impact, Independent Charities of America, Black United Fund of Illinois, and America’s Charities.

For more information regarding this year’s drive, including agency/charity codes and to fill out the online pledge form, please visit  SECA donation form. You can also request a paper pledge form by calling Human Resources at 650-2190. The form should be completed by Wednesday, Nov. 2 and returned to: SECA Fund Drive, Box 1040, Edwardsville, IL, 62026-1040.

Please note that you do not have to submit a 2016 pledge form to continue an existing contribution through payroll deduction. However, even though all payroll deductions submitted by SIUE display the employee’s name and amount per charity, the SECA campaign uses the annual pledge forms to communicate with the sub charities that receive donations from larger charities. We have been informed that when subsequent year donations are sent to the appropriate sub charity, the charity notes the donation received from SIUE staff, but does not break it out by employee. This does not affect the tax deductibility of an employee's charitable donation. Per SECA, if an employee wants the charity to credit specific donations with their name, a new pledge form must be completed each year.

The State of Illinois regulations limit your use of payroll deduction to a maximum of four organizations. If you want to donate to additional agencies through SECA, you may do so by check or money order.

We thank you on behalf of each of the agencies and the many families and individuals who will be helped by your kind generosity. Your consideration of this annual fund drive is appreciated.

For more information about this year’s charitable fund drive, please contact Human Resources at 650-2190.
