John Kelly to Speak Sept. 25 on WSIE-FM's Segue, Hosted by CAS Dean Greg Budzban

St. Louis Blues broadcaster John Kelly will appear on WSIE-FM’s Segue program at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 25. SIUE’s Greg Budzban, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, hosts the weekly public affairs program on FM 88.7, The Sound.

An SIUE Department of Mass Communications alumnus, Kelly (’82) discusses his career preparation and experiences at SIUE, as well as his exciting tenure in the National Hockey League (NHL). A St. Louis native, Kelly transferred to SIUE from a local community college with deep ambition to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Kelly eventually followed in the footsteps of his father, legendary Blues broadcaster and NHL Hall of Fame member Dan Kelly, into the Blues broadcast booth.

John Kelly discusses his career path, the evolution of media and its impact on the NHL over time, the growth of the league, his approach to broadcasting and makes some predictions, too.

Tune in to WSIE 88.7 FM every Sunday at 9 a.m. as weekly guests discuss issues that affect SIUE’s campus, the City of Edwardsville and the Metro East.

SIUE’s Noble Appears on Conversation with Lee Presser, Charter Cable

During the interview, Noble discusses the technological advancements that have led to automated systems, like the autonomous vehicles being developed by companies such as Google and Mercedes-Benz, as well as the technical challenges yet to be overcome before they will be widely seen on roads and highways. Noble also discusses the SIUE School of Engineering’s new mechatronics degree, which directly relates to this topic.

Of interest to owners of battery powered devices, the interview begins with a brief discussion about a patent he and Michael Shaw, PhD, professor in the SIUE Department of Chemistry, obtained for a new type of potentiostat, a device used in battery and fuel cell research and design.
