SIUE College Republicans Host 9/11 Remembrance, Sept. 7

SIUE College Republicans will partner with the Young America’s Foundation to host the 9/11: Never Forget Project, which allows colleges to honor the lives of those who perished in the 9/11 attacks.

American flags will be on display around the Quad from Sept. 7-11. Also, the College Republicans will set up in the quad to allow students to sign cards to thank SIUE and local police and fire departments for their service.

Campus to Host Suicide Prevention Awareness Events, Beginning Today

SIUE recently secured a Garrett Lee Smith Suicide Prevention grant through SAMHSA.

University initiatives are being offered under the iCare name with support from the School of Pharmacy,
School of Nursing and Counseling Services. iCare has the support of multiple student organizations, academic departments and administrative units.

It strives to involve faculty, staff and students in the conversation about suicide prevention.

Lifelong Learning New Offerings this Semester

Lifelong Learning, a community outreach program effort offered by SIUE faculty, retired faculty and staff for members of the local and surrounding communities, begins its fall series of presentations on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

SIUE faculty, staff, and students are also invited to attend presentations for FREE. Cost is $5 for the public.

“Understanding Marketing Concepts” will be presented by Karen Swanner, marketing specialist, Morris University Center.

Information Session and Webinar for the FY18 STEP Grant Program, Sept. 8, 9

The SIUE Office of Research and Projects (ORP) invites faculty and research staff to attend an information session designed to prepare interested applicants for the FY 2018 Seed Grants for Transitional and Exploratory Projects (STEP) competition.

The Call for Proposals deadline is Thursday, Oct. 6 released through the SIUE Researcher news feed. However, applicants are encouraged to prepare well in advance of the October deadline for this competitive program.

The ORP has established an information session and webinar for individuals to learn more about the program and what makes a strong proposal.

This fun and interactive session provides training for new employees on topics such as: campus safety, employee benefits, student affairs, equal opportunity, access and Title IX and more. Attendees will be provided lunch.

Attendance at the New Employee Orientation is strongly encouraged for all civil service, administrative and professional staff. It is optional for faculty members, who will have a School specific orientation hosted by their department. 

New employees are asked to register by visiting the following link. Please register by end of business on Monday, Sept. 12.

You must register in order to guarantee a spot in orientation and to ensure accurate lunch and welcome gift count. Supervisors are asked to register their new employees who do not have access to this e-mail.

SIUE Police Department Presents R.A.D. (Rape, Aggression, Defense) Systems, Sept. 17

The SIUE Police Department will present a one-day, free of charge self defense course offered for WOMEN ONLY (faculty, staff, and students and their guest).

R.A.D. (Rape, Aggression, Defense) Systems is a nationally certified self defense program designed specifically for women. We will spend the day teaching you different techniques on how to defend yourself, should you ever be in immediate danger.

At the end of the day, we put an officer in a padded suit and allow the students to use the skills taught to defend themselves. This is done in a safe environment and everything is completely optional. We hope to see you there!

The SIU School of Dental Medicine is now signing up volunteers for the 2016 Give Kids a Smile event:
