You are Needed to Make The SIUE Experience a Success

Dear Colleagues,

In a few weeks, we will begin The SIUE Experience, which is our orientation program for new students from Thursday-Sunday, Aug. 18-21!

Through this initiative, Student Affairs and numerous campus partners work to:

  • Create a sense of community and connection to SIUE
  • Introduce the SIUE values
  • Put citizenship into action and share in a service project
  • Set the stage for student success and retention

Please visit siue.edu/experience to view the complete schedule of events.

If you have a free hour or so on any of these days, please consider joining the excitement and assisting at one of the many great events during the program.

The first impressions students encounter during this time can have a lasting impact on their connection to SIUE. Please help create a positive SIUE Experience by volunteering using this online form.

If you would like to join the Class of 2020 at our Citizenship in Action service project on Saturday, Aug. 20, please click here.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Attend the Aug. 23 Reception for Gail Stukenberg, August Employee of the Month

Gail Stukenberg, office support specialist for Learning Support Services, is the recipient of the August Employee Recognition Award.

Gail was nominated by Dr. Kevin Thomas, Office of Retention and Student Success director; and Dr. Yvonne Mitkos, former Student Success director, with support from Dr. Laura Pawlow and Mary Lou Wlodarek.

Please join us in congratulating Stukenberg as the Employee of the Month:
2 p.m.
Tuesday, August 23
Room 1201, Smart Seminar East
Student Success Center

You can also send her a congratulatory email to gstuken@siue.edu.

For more information, contact Jen Oates-Blair, joatesb@siue.edu or at 650-2127.

“Gail is a dedicated employee who continually demonstrates excellence in her professional performance. Beyond her professional excellence, she also greets every student, faculty, staff and community member in the LSS area with a kind welcome and a smile," said Thomas. "Over the past seven months, I would not have handled my job as efficiently and effectively, if it were not for the support and professionalism of Gail Stukenberg. She is a star. She manages details and follows through on her job in a way that can only be described as spectacular."

“I would like to thank my former director, Dr. Yvonne Mitkos, and my current director, Dr. Kevin Thomas for nominating me, as well as Mary Lou Wlodarek, Tutoring Resource Center coordinator, and all others who endorsed my nomination," said Stukenberg. "Anyone who knows me, knows that my mantra is 'The common denominator wherever you go is people.' I am beyond blessed to work with some of the most dedicated, devoted, fun and passionate people here at SIUE, starting with my colleagues in Learning Support Services, Testing Services, Academic Advising and SOAR."
