As interim chancellor, Hansen provided leadership and direction during one of the most challenging years for higher education in the state of Illinois. During his lengthy SIUE career, he has also served as interim dean of SIUE’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), dean of the SIUE Graduate School and a history professor in CAS.

Come out and celebrate Hansen’s many contributions to the University!

Plan to Attend the Summer 2016 Mississippi Project Workshop on Aug. 11

SIUE faculty from all disciplines can explore how to incorporate sustainability into their curriculum at the sixth annual Mississippi Project Workshop.

8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 11
Saint Louis University
Busch Student Center 352

The free workshop is presented by Connie Frey Spurlock, PhD, associate profssor in the SIUE Department of Sociology and sustainability faculty fellow. A free lunch will also be provided.

If you're searching for new ways to empower students with the tools and knowledge they need to be leaders in a future characterized by rapid social, inequality and environmental changes, or if you're considering developing a new course or a new module in an existing course, this workshop is for you.

Education for sustainability is a quickly developing concern of colleges and universities. Increasing evidence shows that, when considering options for higher education, prospective students are looking at campuses in terms of the environment and what those campuses are doing in terms of sustainability.

Emerging data, furthermore, suggest that campuses that practice sustainability have higher retention and graduation rates than campuses that do not. I invite you to participate in the Summer 2016 Mississippi Project: "Green Curriculum, Green Campus, Green Community." The workshop is modeled after the Ponderosa Project at Northern Arizona University and the Piedmont Project at Emory University, which have both drawn national attention for their innovative approaches to curricular change.

Register by Sunday, August 7 at Mississppi Project Workshop. Only 20 spaces are available!

You are Needed to Make The SIUE Experience a Success

We need YOU to make The SIUE Experience a success for the Class of 2020!

Please consider volunteering to help welcome new SIUE students.

The first impressions that these students experience during this orientation program can have a lasting impact on their connection to the University.

We are looking for faculty and staff to accompany new students and upper-class student leaders on our Class of 2020 service project.

This activity puts our SIUE value of Citizenship into action. We are providing service to seven community agencies in the Metro East: Arlington Wetlands, Granite City Community Garden, Grassroots Grocery/Hellrung Park/Hunterstown neighborhood (Alton), Jamie Hines Discovery Park, La Vista CSA Farm, Watershed Nature Center and Willoughby Farm.
