Donate Your Gently-Used Books to the SIUE Head Start Program

Please consider donating gently-used books for children who are between ages six months and six years.

To donate you can:

  • Send books via campus mail to Steve Hupp, Box 1121
  • Drop them off in the red tub across from the Department of Psychology in the basement of Alumni Hall
  • Email Hupp to come pick them up at sthupp@siue.edu

Hupp's goal is to collect as many gently-used books as possbile by Friday, May 6. However, he will continue to accept them all year.

Most of the books will be sent home with children attending the SIUE Head Start program. The books come with a letter to parents emphasizing that the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends daily reading with children starting at birth. The letter also promotes the value of incorporating reading into the bedtime routine and provides tips for making daily reading more meaningful and effective.

The need is great. There are about 1,500 children enrolled in the SIUE Head Start program each year.
