Visualizing Research Impacts Competition

The Visualizing Research Impacts (VRI) competition is designed to encourage SIUE scholars to show the results and impacts of their research to the public through images.

The image can be a photo, drawing, painting, collage, etc. Scholars can create the image themselves or collaborate with someone to create the image.

The competition begins today.

All entries must be submitted by April 4.

It is open to SIUE faculty, staff, and students who are currently involved in a research project or creative activity at SIUE.

Prizes will be awarded for:

(1) Best Representation of Research Impact ($1,500)

(2) Most Creative Representation of Research Impact ($1,000)

The first place winners will receive a monetary award to be used toward their scholarly activities at SIUE.

Lifelong Learning Programs, Feb. 3

Take a look at this week's Lifelong Learning Programs:

Wednesday, Feb. 3
Morris University Center Oak-Redbud Room

Cuba and the U.S. will be presented by Mariana Solares, PhD, associate professor, Foreign Language and Literature and Thomas Jordan, associate professor and coordinator for Policy, Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Cuba and efforts to bring its relationship with America, long defined by a crisis in the 1960s,  into the 21st century will be discussed. This presentation is part of the Great Decisions World Affairs series.

1:15 – 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 3
Morris University Center Oak-Redbud Room

I Can’t Hear You When You’re Angry will be presented by Alison Reiheld, PhD, assistant professor, Department of Philosophy and Director, Women’s Studies Program. In a morally diverse society there can be intense disagreement. We often think of civility as the glue that makes society function.  However, we also use it to silence others. It must not be the case that we can dismiss justified anger with a simple, "I can’t hear you when you’re angry.” Learn to recognize our reactions, so we can all be more wary of our impulses to silence angry and even righteously angry speech.

SIUE faculty, staff and students attend for FREE.  The cost is $5 for the general public.

More information about the presentations can be found at  Lifelong Learning Programs.

For more information, contact Patty Bade, SIUE Office of Educational Outreach, 618-650-3985 or pbade@siue.edu.
