There will be a marathon reading of The Iliad by Homer, beginning at:

Students and faculty will read the complete work in 10 and 20 minute sections throughout both days to support a student project in HONS 120.

Explore the night sky in all its glory during SIUE Astronomy Viewing Sessions, every even-dated Tuesday at the William C. Shaw Skylab on the north edge of campus (GPS: 38.809270, -89.993801).

Our first spring viewing will be held:

Remaining dates for the spring semester include Feb. 2 and 16, March 22 and April 12 and 26, starting at 8:30 p.m.

These events are open to the public and hosted by Dr. Tom Foster.

Lifelong Learning Program Begins Jan. 27

Lifelong Learning begins Wednesday, Jan. 27 with Kenneth Moffett, PhD, associate professor in political science and Jeannie Dinning, Speech Center coordinator and Career Development lead and lecturer. 

The Politics of the 2016 Presidential Primaries will be presented by Moffett.
The candidates and issues surrounding the election will be discussed.

Join Safe Zone as we Skype with Dr. Georgiann Davis to discuss the intersex community and how we can be better allies. Dr. Davis is a former SIUE faculty member and author of Contesting Intersex: The Dubious Diagnosis. Light refreshments and door prizes will be provided!

Darwin Day 2016 Celebrated with Seminar, Feb. 15

The Ralph W. Axtell Lecture Series will present: 

"Fleshing out dinosaurs! From Darwin’s Bulldog to advanced 3D modeling"

Presenters include: Lawrence M. Witmer, PhD, professor of anatomy; and Chang Ying-Chien, professor of paleontology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences of Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University. 

The seminar is sponsored by the SIUE Wildlife and Conservation Biology Club and the Department of Biological Sciences. 

Refreshments will be provided.

Coming Feb. 27: Defense Workshop

The SIUE Police Department is presenting a one-day, free of charge, self defense course: Rape, Aggression, Defense (R.A.D.) Systems. The course is offered for WOMEN ONLY (faculty, staff, students and their guests).

R.A.D. is a nationally certified self defense program designed specifically for women.  We will spend the day teaching you different techniques on how to defend yourself. At the end of the day, we put an officer in a padded suit and allow the students to use the skills taught to defend themselves.  

Appropriate clothing would be tennis shoes, T-shirt with sweat pants or shorts. Bring money for lunch options in the MUC or bring a sack lunch.
