Volunteers to Welcome Students on Jan. 11

Student Affairs is continuing its efforts to welcome new and returning students to campus on Monday, Jan. 11.  

Ask Me! volunteers will stand in key locations across campus with an “Ask Me!” sign and button to answer questions and get students pointed in the right direction for their classes or to conduct business.

Student Fitness Center Weight Room Open House Jan. 14

SIUE students have consistently expressed their desire and need for an expanded weight room and we are excited to report that the Student Fitness Center weight room expansion project is now complete!

At our open house you will not only have the opportunity to check out the expanded space that will better accommodate our students, but also see some of our new equipment and enhanced amenities, watch equipment demonstrations, speak with our personal trainers and receive membership information.

As you are preparing for Spring classes, don’t forget that the Career Development Center gives presentations on career-related topics!

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Resumes Interviewing
  • Networking Job Search
  • Co-ops & Internships LinkedIn
  • Career Assessments Preparing for a Career Fair
  • Social Media Professional Attire & Etiquette

Presentations can be done 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday or by request. We will do our best to accommodate all requests, however there will be times when we have limited staff availability.

Note: If you would like your class to use our services (i.e. mock interviews, assessments, resume approvals, etc.), please notify us in advance that your students will be making appointments, as well as for what class and for which class assignment. This way we will be able to ensure we are meeting your and your students’ needs.

Faculty Development Workshop Jan. 28

“Making Learning Stick: Strategies for Successful Learning”

The presenter is Henry L. Roediger, III, James S. McDonnell Distinguished Professor of psychology at Washington University in St. Louis.

Workshop description: Surveys of college students show that their typical study strategies are not optimal for producing strong, durable learning. If they have spent most of their lifetimes learning, we can ask why they don't learn more effective strategies?

Attend the Diabetes Patient Education Symposium Jan. 30

SIUE School of Pharmacy students and faculty would like to invite you to attend the 10th Annual Diabetes Patient Education Symposium. The symposium is for patient/caregivers of those affected with diabetes or pre-diabetes.

  • Diabetes Technology – Assisting your efforts
  • Myth Busters – Setting the facts straight
  • Healthy Eating – Understanding marketing pitfalls of food labels

Vendor Fair includes:

  • Free lunch
  • Community services available to talk about offerings/programs
  • Free A1c testing for patients with diabetes (while testing supplies last)
  • Free cholesterol testing (while testing supplies last)
  • One-on-one counseling sessions with registered pharmacists, nurses and dietitians that work within the diabetes care arenas

We have partnered with Alton Memorial, Novo Nordisk, Inc., SIUE Student Government and the SIUE School of Pharmacy American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists to make this event possible.
