This event will be helpful for private practice dentists who are interested in the addition of a soon-to-graduate dental student. Attendees will have a great opportunity to mingle with 3rd and 4th year students. The event will begin with a one-on-one speed networking event offering brief intervals to learn more about individual students and for our students to learn more about practice opportunities in the community. The networking event will be followed by a small reception where practitioners and students can continue to network in a more casual environment. The school will provide appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages to enjoy throughout the evening.

A new academic year began on August 5 at SIU SDM. Aspiring dental professionals eager to make a positive impact are easing into their heavy course load, important research and clinical work by enjoying opportunities to get to know one another and learn more about campus services this week. On August 7, students, faculty, staff and administrators were treated to free pizza, ice cream and massages during the 2nd Annual SIU SDM Welcome Day and Resource Fair.

SIUE will honor eight remarkable graduates at the 2019 SIUE Alumni Hall of Fame ceremony, “A Night Among the Stars,” on Friday, September 27. These impressive alumni have made exceptional contributions in their chosen fields, in their communities and at SIUE through their leadership, character and hard work. Representing the School of Dental Medicine this year will be Dr. Randall Markarian, SIU SDM Class of 1992.

SIU SDM has honored four distinguished students with its annual Dean’s Scholarship Award. The Dean’s Scholarship Program was created with the goal of rewarding academic merit, assisting with financial need and increasing student diversity at the SIU SDM. Recipients include Alexis Polczynski, Adam Falasz, Mary Beth Di Lisio and Karolina Migus. Each has been awarded $5,000 for the 2019-2020 academic year.

High school students from Illinois and Missouri recently came to experience SIUE's annual Healthcare Diversity Summer Camp. The collaborative camp, held June 17-21, exposed 35 students to career opportunities in the healthcare industry, and was hosted by the SIUE Schools of Pharmacy and Nursing, the SIU School of Dental Medicine and the SIUE School of Education, Health and Human Behavior’s nutrition program.
