SDM fourth-year student Jaterra Ross of Chicago was recently awarded a $5,000 scholarship from the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation in recognition of her impressive commitment to community service and academic excellence. SDM faculty nominator Katie Kosten, DMD, assistant professor and director of community dentistry, says Jaterra’s professionalism and aptitude are impressive. Her path to dental school and her motivation for entering the dental profession, in particular, make her stand out.

The SDM hosted its 13th annual Give Kids a Smile Day on October 8. Nearly 110 children received free comprehensive dental care valued at approximately $61,000 while also enjoying fun education activities highlighting the importance of oral health.

SDM first-year dental students, along with students in the International Advanced Placement Program, received the traditional coat of medical professionals during the 18th annual White Coat Ceremony on October 5.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville honored eight remarkable graduates at the 2018 SIUE Alumni Hall of Fame ceremony, “A Night Among the Stars,” on September 28 in the Morris University Center. The impressive alumni have made exceptional contributions in their chosen fields, in their communities and at SIUE through their leadership, character and hard work. The SDM was honored to induct Dr. Tish Nihill, DMD '82, into the Alumni Hall of Fame.
