In February, scores of SIU SDM alumni, faculty and friends returned to King Arthur's Court at the InterContinental-Chicago for the annual Midwinter Alumni Reception. The event continues to be attended by more SIU SDM than any other event each year. The 2018 Midwinter Alumni Reception enjoyed the company of over 150 guests, including more than 90 SIU SDM alumni.

SIU SDM Provided Dental Screenings, Interactive Education for Hundreds of Local Children

Since high school, JaTerra Castine-Ross knew she wanted to be either a teacher or a dentist. Instead of picking one future profession, she says she chose both by pursuing a degree at the SIU SDM. Her passions for dentistry and education were on full display as she and her fellow SIU SDM classmates hosted approximately 300 kindergarten-2nd grade students throughout February in celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month. Third-year SIU SDM students provided engaging oral health education and fourth-year students performed dental screenings on children from Alton, Bethalto and Roxana.

Journal of Dental Ed Honors SDM’s Biethman for Research

SIU SDM's Rick Biethman, DMD, is among four honorees to receive the 2017 Olav Alvares Award for Early Career Scholars Who Published Outstanding Articles in the Journal of Dental Education. His article “Screening for Diabetes in a Dental School Clinic to Assess Interprofessional Communication Between Physicians and Dental Students” earned the award.
