Message from the Chair

Our faculty and students had another good year!

  • Lora Dust (BSA 2014) earned the Elijah Watts Sells Award for her performance on the CPA exam. Only 60 out of over 91,000 exam-takers earned this distinction! Read more about Lora’s accomplishment in the Spotlight on Students section.
  • This year, more students have multiple job offers than any year in recent memory. Twenty-four employers attended this past fall’s Meet the Firms event and 15 conducted on-campus interviews.
  • Our Beta Alpha Psi chapter was again named as a distinguished chapter at the Beta Alpha National Meeting. This marks the fourth consecutive year our chapter was named either superior or distinguished.
  • Brandi Jackson was the commencement speaker for the December commencement.  In January, she began an internship at Grant Thornton, and she will enter the MSA program after that. In the last year, Brandi represented the department at the Illinois CPA Society’s Mary T. Washington Wylie Internship Preparation Program and earned scholarships from the Illinois CPA Society and the National Association of Black Accountants.
  • Our newest faculty members are making a difference: Greg Sierra was promoted to associate professor, Jamie Hoelscher is leading our efforts to incorporate data analytics in our programs, Susan Murray is the School of Business expert on sustainability, and Drew Gross is strengthening our tax program. Read more about Greg Sierra and Brad Reed in the Focus on Faculty section.

In recent years, Professors Brad Reed and Greg Sierra have served on these PCAOB research teams, which involves taking on PCAOB-assigned topics with other researchers from around the country and consulting with PCAOB staff.
