Sally Schutt Ferguson, 1945-2021; Was Former Director of Institutional Research and Studies
Sally Schutt Ferguson, of Highland, died Monday, Oct. 18 in St. Louis. She was 76.
Ferguson began her career at SIUE in 1969 working in the Center for Urban and Environmental Research and Services. In 1981, she was appointed the Director of Institutional Research and Studies, continuing in that position until her retirement in 2007.
While working at the University, Ferguson received her MBA from SIUE (1980) and taught classes as a visiting instructor in the School of Business and as a visiting assistant professor in the Graduate Urban Affairs and Policy Analysis Program.
Ferguson was instrumental in the implementation of the HRS and SIS systems. She worked closely with faculty on early assessment efforts and was instrumental in facilitating the faculty salary equity studies. She was recognized statewide for her work with the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) and nationally for her work with the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). While she has been retired since 2007, many of Ferguson’s efforts live on in our financial, human resources and student systems.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
