Gerald Runkle, 1924-2021; Was Former Dean

Gerald Runkle, of Santa Fe, New Mexico, died Monday, June 21. He was 97.
Runkle began his career at SIUE in 1957, teaching at the East St. Louis campus. He was part of all aspects of the development of the Edwardsville campus. Besides being a philosophy professor, he later became Dean of Humanities. He retired in 1989.
Runkle authored several books, including “History of Western Political Theory,” “Anarchism: Old and New,” “Good Thinking, Theory and Practice,” and “Ethics: An Examination of Contemporary Moral Problems.”
