P. Narayan Swamy, 1936-2019; Was Physics Faculty
P. Narayan Swamy, PhD, of Tampa, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 14. He was 83.
A native of Ranganathapuram, India, Prof. Emeritus Swamy retired from SIUE’s Department of Physics in 2001 after a 32-year career, during which he was department chair for eight years. Many remember him as remaining quite active in the department for many years following his retirement.
Swamy earned a bachelor’s with honors, a master’s and a doctorate in physics from the University of Delhi. Passionate about learning, he was known to read four or five different books on a variety of subjects at one time, often quoting the phrase, “When you’re through learning, you’re through.” He conducted research and presented at conferences nationally and internationally, publishing scores of articles on a wide range of topics, including quantum field theory and electrodynamics.
A private funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 16, at Segal Funeral Home in Tampa.
