Southern Illinois University Edwardsville raised a glass to its newest graduates on Thursday, Dec. 11, ahead of this weekend’s commencement ceremonies. The semiannual Always a Cougar Celebration welcomed members of the Class of ’25, along with their families and alumni, for an evening reception and champagne toast in the Meridian Ballroom of the Morris University Center.

On Wednesday the Ohio Valley Conference announced that the SIUE volleyball program earned the 2025 Team Sportsmanship Award.
Voted on by the student-athletes and coaches of the respective sports, the team awards are bestowed upon the Conference squads deemed to have best exhibited the standards of sportsmanship and ethical behavior as outlined by the OVC and NCAA. In celebration of the centennial of Route 66, SIUE Athletics is proud to announce the department's first alternate identity. At various times during the 2026 calendar year, beginning on New Year's Day with men's and women's basketball, SIUE will compete as the SIUE 66ers.

Military and Veteran Services (MAVS) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville marked the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII this fall with a series of programs exploring the war’s lasting impact at home and around the world.

SIUE senior forward Ring Malith has been named the Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball Player of the Week after a pair of standout performances.
Ring Malith was the offensive leader for the Cougars, and the catalyst in the comeback win Monday at North Florida. Malith recorded his first 30-point game with a career-high 31 points, while adding 10 rebounds for his seventh career double-double.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville students of African American literary studies professor Howard Rambsy, PhD, brought out their inner comic book fan to walk the runway in Afrofuturism fashion. Proctor received Ohio Valley Conference freshman of the week honors for her first time this season.
In her game against Evansville, she recorded 16 points on 6-12 shooting adding four rebounds, four assists and three steals going 2-2 from the free throw line.
