SIUE ITE Student Chapter Named 2026 MOVITE School of the Year
The student chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville won the 2026 School of the Year Award from the Missouri Valley Section of ITE (MOVITE).
The chapter received the award at the MOVITE Annual Conference Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in Lincoln, Nebraska. The award recognizes the chapter’s active engagement in MOVITE events. MOVITE brings together transportation professionals, educators and students, and offers opportunities for technical learning, professional development and networking.
Students from the SIUE School of Engineering’s Department of Civil Engineering took part in the Traffic Bowl Competition, the Student Safety Awareness Campaign Competition, technical sessions, networking activities and a sponsor recognition event.
“We are very pleased to receive the MOVITE School of the Year Award. It recognizes the strong participation and enthusiasm of our students and reflects their growing involvement in the transportation engineering profession,” said Yan Qi, PhD, professor of Civil Engineering and advisor of the chapter. “We appreciate this recognition and look forward to continuing our active participation in MOVITE activities.”
Qi earned a doctorate in civil engineering with a focus on transportation and a master of science in Applied Statistics, both from Louisiana State University. Before joining SIUE, she was an engineering faculty member at Montana Tech, where she started a new transportation program.
The trip was supported by sponsors Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick Inc. and the ITE Gateway Section.
