From Refugee to Campus Leader: Dzenana Mruckovski Joins SIUE Administration
A journey that began with resilience and reinvention is now bringing new leadership to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Dzenana Mruckovski has been named SIUE’s new Associate Vice Chancellor for Administration, adding more than 20 years of experience in facilities management, infrastructure planning, public administration and capital project leadership to the University’s executive team.
Currently serving as Director of Capital Projects & Records at Washington University in St. Louis, Mruckovski has led major institutional infrastructure and capital improvement initiatives while overseeing complex operational projects. Her career also includes 12 years as Director of Facilities for WashU’s School of Arts & Sciences, along with leadership positions for the City of Crestwood and the City of St. Louis.
“I am honored to be joining Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and eager to get to work alongside colleagues across administration,” said Mruckovski. “Through this process, I was struck by SIUE's strong sense of community and commitment to student success and meaningful impact across the region.”
Originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mruckovski came to the St. Louis region as a war refugee, an experience that profoundly shaped her perspective on leadership, service and opportunity. Over the years, she transformed those experiences into a career focused on building systems, improving communities, and supporting institutions that impact people’s lives.
Mruckovski earned a Master of Science in Engineering Management from Missouri University of Science and Technology and completed undergraduate studies in civil engineering through University of Missouri–St. Louis and Washington University in St. Louis.
Mruckovski’s combination of technical expertise, municipal leadership and personal resilience positions her to help guide the SIUE campus experience for the entire University community.
