Dixie Engelman 1930-2026; Dean Emerita
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville College of Arts and Sciences Dean Emerita Dixie Anne Engelman has died. The former dean and associate professor of speech pathology and audiology received the Distinguished Service Award in 2014 for her lifelong philanthropy to SIUE and her dedication as a community volunteer for more than 35 years.
Engelman was a charter member and first president of the Meridian Society, an auxiliary group of the SIUE Foundation founded as a women’s giving circle for programs that support SIUE and the community.
Notably, Engelman returned to SIUE after retiring in 2005 to serve as chairwoman of SIUE’s 50th Celebration, which required more than two years of volunteer time in commitment and planning.
Dixie was impactful beyond SIUE by founding a chapter of Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO International Sisterhood) and was the first woman trustee on the Roxana School Board.
Dixie will be interred at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville. A Celebration of Life will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, at the Leclaire Room on 600 Troy Rd. #109 in Edwardsville.
Memorials may be made to the Dixie Engelman Legacy Fund, supporting educational and community initiatives that reflect Dixie's lifelong commitment to service and learning. Checks can be mailed to 22 Eastmoor Drive, Wood River, Ill.
