East St. Louis Charter High School Students Welcome Members of SIUE’s NPHC for Cultural History and Performance

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), members of the "Divine Nine" Black Greek Letter Organizations, traveled to the SIUE East St. Louis Charter High School (CHS) on the Wyvetter H. Younge Higher Education Campus and gave a presentation during the CHS Black History Assembly on Friday, Feb. 27.
CHS Principal Kimberly Allen and CHS School Resource Officer (SRO) Sgt. Kasey Hoyd welcomed the members of the NPHC organizations back to CHS after last year’s lively presentation and performance. Hoyd opened the event by providing an overview of the National Pan-Hellenic Council. Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. were in attendance.
Members of each organization provided the CHS students with a brief history of their organization, performed traditional stepping and strolling individually, then collectively as a group for the high school audience. Each organization brought a unique experience and added positive energy to the program. Students got to meet the members of the NPHC organizations and were excited to learn more.
The program also included a singing performance by CHS students, several selections by individual CHS spoken word artists, and a collaborative cultural dance number by CHS students and staff.
