SIUE Offers Abraham Lincoln Online Summer Graduate Course
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Department of Teaching and Learning is offering a new three-credit online summer course “Teaching Lincoln, K-12,” in collaboration with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield. Teachers and graduate students from across the country can plan their own trip anytime this summer and enroll in the course that spans July 2-August 4.
“Teachers or other individuals at the graduate level interested in teaching, who visit the Lincoln Presidential Library, can now register for a graduate level online course at SIUE,” said Caroline R. Pryor, EdD, professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning within the School of Education, Health and Human Behavior (SEHHB). “We are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the presidential library to offer this educational opportunity to teachers who visit the Springfield area.”
During the past 10 years, Pryor has led teacher workshops, supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, on trips to Springfield.
The class consists of online sessions and requires a self-organized trip to the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The course uses a critical perspective, which implies the ability to describe, analyze and synthesize the history of the Lincoln era using common core, C-3 and social studies standards as background for teaching in the schools.
Information about the course (CI 568-504) and graduate course registration processes can be found on the websites of both the SEHHB and the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The course does not include the cost of trips, site entrance, parking or any additional materials, fees or costs.
