Southern Illinois University Edwardsville's radio station, WSIE 88.7, The Sound, was highlighted in a Radio World feature chronicling a writer's 4,500-mile summer road trip across 20 states in search of smooth jazz radio stations. The article, part of the "Nick's Signal Spot" column, described WSIE as "a fine representation of the format today."
The piece noted that WSIE's signal, based near Edwardsville, reached the writer as far as the I-270/I-44 interchange west of St. Louis and stayed with him through the drive to Mt. Vernon, Ill. The station was recognized for offering a wide variety of contemporary jazz along with classic jazz programming under the leadership of Jason Church.
