St. Louis Public Radio Highlights SIUE's Samoan Language Course

St. Louis Public Radio featured Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s new Samoan Language and Conversation course on its daily program, “St. Louis on the Air.” During the interview with host Elaine Cha, instructor Viliamu (William) Fanene discussed the importance of preserving the Samoan language, the growing interest in Polynesian cultures, and how SIUE became one of only a handful of universities in the United States to offer a university-based Samoan language course. Fanene also shared how the class helps students connect with language, culture, and identity while making Samoan more accessible to learners of all backgrounds.
