Kristen Schmalz joined the University Marketing and Communications team as the marketing and events specialist in January 2018. She is responsible for commencement ceremonies for both the fall and spring sessions; in which she communicates with graduates and guests throughout the RSVP process and coordinates event setup and execution. She also manages content, development and execution of New Student Convocation, works with the Office of Admissions to develop Preview SIUE and Springboard to Success programming, collaborates with the Chancellor's Office to manage other external affairs/special events, and manages content for University digital signage.
Prior to joining SIUE, she worked in the sports entertainment and staffing industries, where she gained experience in sales, customer service, procurement, marketing and event planning. Kristen earned a bachelor’s in management and organizational leadership and a minor in art from Illinois College.
She is excited to join the UMC team and expand on her events and marketing experience. When Kristen is not working, she enjoys the outdoors and likes to try her hand at DIY projects.
