Patricia Merritt joined SIUE in 2001 as the public relations director at the SIUE East St. Louis Center and, in 2010, became a member of the University Marketing and Communications team. In her current role, she supports the University's media relations operation, working on news-related stories and information, and fostering relationships between SIUE and local media outlets. She is also active with the SIUE Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA), of which she was a founding board member.
Patricia holds a bachelor's in journalism with a minor in English and a master's in communications. A veteran journalist, she brings more than 20 years of experience to the UMC team. Throughout her career, she has established a reputation of reporting with accuracy and integrity.
In her spare time, Patricia is a writer for Echoes, where she produces creative, inspirational and instructional material for Cook Communications, a national publishing house headquartered in Denver, Colo. She is also a past member and collaborator with the Eugene B. Redmond (EBR) Writers Club.
