Writing "Visible Glory in a 'Sea of Peace'"
The first piece in Visible Glory, after the preface, is "Visible Glory in a 'Sea of Peace' (November, 1995)" by Eugene B. Redmond. The Redmond Collection contains four manuscript iterations of this work. Each draft is presented below in sequence.
This handwritten version likely represents Redmond's very first "Sea of Peace" draft.
The first paragraph (beginning "It was a Million Years in the Making") shows considerable evidence of careful re-working. In the final version, it reads as an effortless stream-of-consciousness recitation of associations.
The parenthetical explanation below the title implies that Redmond intended to distribute this piece in advance of the book's publication, as a "poetic preview" to generate book orders.

In this version, Redmond has inserted a paragraph with the label "ITEM" before the main body of the piece. The title has changed slightly.
The main piece has now been broken up into three parts. Part I is "Million Man Plan."
The first paragraph, beginning "It was a Million Years in the Making," incorporates all of the re-working of the handwritten version above, plus some additional revisions. It is now almost identical to the final published version.
