Diversity Day
Diversity Day is a University-wide experience that provides a platform for students, faculty, staff, alumni, retirees and the broader community to celebrate diversity, build relationships and learn more about initiatives supportive of inclusive excellence. Access to presentations will be available on the SIUE campus, within the SIU System and for surrounding communities. Many events will be held in person, but some will be virtual or hybrid.
To ensure that we accurately represent the voices of the different constituency groups across campus, Diversity Day is planned by a committee of faculty, staff and students from the Edwardsville, East St. Louis and Alton campuses.

Diversity Day 2022 will be changing back to an in-person event. Additionally, there will be opportunities for collaboration across the SIU System and the local community. Be thinking of presentations or topics you would like to present or learn about. And consider volunteering at Diversity Day to help the event run smoothly for all. Until more details are finalized, please review last year’s information and look forward to Diversity Day 2022!
Diversity Day 2021
SIUE Diversity Day 2021 was a celebration of our institution’s past, present and future as it relates to advances in equity, diversity and inclusion. This goal was encapsulated in the day’s theme, "Inclusive Excellence in Action." Designed with community engagement and participation across SIUE’s campuses in mind, Diversity Day showcased the multitude of ways in which membership in the global community is core to our values and mission. It also highlighted efforts to activate inclusive excellence at the University.
This educational day was held virtually and included panels and engagement sessions developed around the four dimensions of SIUE's Inclusive Excellence framework:
- Access and Success
- Campus Climate
- Community Engagement
- Diversity Learning and Education
The kickoff event for Diversity Day was the SIU Conversation of Understanding. The topic was "Perspectives on an Anti-Racist, Equitable and Inclusive SIU."
Diversity Day 2021 offered an exciting array of sessions, as well as a keynote address from Dr. Tia Brown McNair, Vice President in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Student Success at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U).
We encouraged everyone to join us as we discussed building the foundation for putting inclusive excellence into action!
