Respondus and LockDown Browser
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has obtained a campus-wide license for the Respondus software. Respondus is a Windows application that enhances the functionality and usability of Blackboard's quiz, survey, and self-test tools. Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that provides a secure testing environment within Blackboard. Students are locked into the assessment and are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications.
Respondus 4.0
Faculty can download Respondus by logging into Blackboard with their e-ID and password. Under the Services link, click the Download Respondus Here link in the Respondus Resource Page module.
If students (graduate assistants or teaching assistants) require access to the Respondus software, a representative faculty member or department administrator will have to send an email to bbhelp@siue.edu providing the following information: student name, e-ID, and reason for student usage of Respondus. Students will be notified via email once the authorization is complete.
Respondus LockDown Browser
Download LockDown Browser by logging into Blackboard with your e-ID and password. Under MySIUE, look for the LockDown Browser tab. The software download link and installation instructions can be found at by clicking on the Download Respondus LockDown Browser link in the middle of the module.
Users should make every attempt to keep LockDown Browser up to date. Users can check their own version of LockDown Browser and update it on their personal computer by opening the program and clicking on the blue circle with the white "i" located in the upper left corner of the LockDown Browser screen. On the information screen that opens, check the current version number and then click the "Check for Newer Version" button to search for and install updates if necessary. (Students should be encouraged to perform this check before they log into Blackboard to take an assessment.)
