Leave
Category 92 - Prof Staff Reg Reorganization
The leave category that you are
assigned to is determined by your position.
Leave
Type
There are different types of leave that employees may accrue or have
rolled over from previous years. The most common types are;
Years
of Service
For
some leave categories, vacation leave accrual rates differ based on the
employees years of service. Years of service is determined by
subtracting your Adjusted Service Date from the end date of the pay
period in which the leave is to be accrued.
Hours
Accrued
If
you earn vacation, vacation leave is earned evenly throughout the year
per each pay period. Leave time accruals are no longer tied
to
the number of hours worked in each month. At the end of the
year,
you earn the same time as in the previous method. This change
evens out the accrual process allowing for a consistent accrual rate to
be used per pay period. The vacation leave accrual
is
prorated to your continuing appointment percentage. If you
have
an 80% appointment you receive 80% of the accrual rate.
Unused
vacation may or may not carry over to the following year, please
consult your union contract. If you are in a grant paid
position,
vacation should be used by the end of the grant period.
Vacation and regular sick leave is earned based on hours paid each pay period. Hours paid includes worked hours and while on paid leave time such as vacation, sick, jury duty etc. As always, employees must be in a pay status to accrue leave time. If you are in a non-paid leave status or have Dock pay earnings (Absent without pay) your leave accrual will be reduced during any pay period that you are not in pay status.
Full-time employees in pay status (75 hours each 2 week pay period) earn ½ a sick day each semi-monthly payroll so that over 24 semi-monthly payrolls you earn 12 sick days per year. As always, the sick leave accrual is prorated to your appointment percentage. If you have an 80% appointment you receive 80% of the accrual rate. Unused sick leave carries over to the following year and there is no limit to the amount of sick leave you may accumulate.
If you receive a one time grant of extended sick leave, your unused extended sick leave balance is maintained in Banner. If you have already used this one time grant, your extended sick leave balance is 0. Unused extended sick leave is carried over at the end of a fiscal year until it is used in full.
Accrual rates may be pro-rated depending on various factors such as the amount of hours worked (for bi-weekly employees), your appointment percentage (or FTE) and the amount of time that you were in pay status during the pay period.
