Important Update from University Housing
SIUE recently released the academic instruction plan for fall 2020. As a University Housing resident for fall 2020 – spring 2021, we want to take this opportunity to explain what that means to you as a University Housing resident. University Housing will remain open as currently outlined in the University Housing Contract Terms and Conditions, even if on-ground instruction moves to primarily virtual instruction at certain times in the semester (for example, between Thanksgiving and Winter Break).
- Bluff, Prairie, and Woodland Halls will be open from Tuesday, August 18 through Friday, December 18 at 5 pm. Residence Halls will reopen on Sunday, January 10, 2021.
- Cougar Village Apartments and Evergreen Hall will remain open throughout Winter Break.
While coursework may move to a virtual format for a select period, University Housing residents will continue to have access to their living unit and campus resources. University Housing staff will continue to provide programming and support, virtually and in person. Housing bill adjustments will not be made for students who choose to engage in their virtual learning at their permanent address.
For the fall 2020-spring 2021 academic year, an additional section has been added in the University Housing Living Guide to address the health and safety of our residential communities. The Community Living Health and Safety section of the Living Guide addresses general health and safety guidelines, face covering expectations, guest policy, social distancing, and more. The complete section can be found at www.siue.edu/housing/options/move-in/living-guide.shtml.
Please make note of the following:
- Residents are required to comply with health and safety laws, orders, ordinances, regulations and health and safety guidance adopted by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville or University Housing as it relates to COVID-19.
- Residents will be expected to wear face coverings when in all public spaces in University Housing. This includes, but is not limited to, hallways, lobbies, public bathrooms, elevator, community kitchens, social and study lounges, computer labs, and activity wing spaces.
- Guests will not be permitted in any University Housing living area. Guests are individuals who do not reside in your residential community. Your residential community is considered your assigned residence hall. In Cougar Village Apartments, guests are not permitted who do not live in Cougar Village. This includes both daytime and overnight guests.
University Housing is extending the cancellation deadline for Fall 2020-Spring 2021 housing contracts to August 1, 2020. Cancellations received, in writing, on or before August 1 will not forfeit the $275. If you do not cancel your contract by August 1, you are agreeing to the terms outlined above regarding the Housing Contract Terms and Conditions and the extended Living Guide related to Community Health and Safety.
Our staff is looking forward to you arriving on campus this fall! We have been diligently planning this summer to prepare for your arrival and prioritizing the safety and the health of our residential communities. While this fall will look different than previous years, we are sure you will continue to experience the same high-quality residential experience and connection to the campus community.
Please remember that Housing Move-In is scheduled this year for both first year and upperclass residents between Tuesday, August 18 and Saturday August 22. Check www.siue.edu/housing/myhousing for your move in time.
