Assistant Community Director

Positions available for academic year 2022-2023:
- The Residence Hall Assistant Community Director position (1 opening-Evergreen Hall) is a half-time (20 hours), live-in position responsible for assisting the Community Director with the management of an upper-class residential community. Responsibilities include: supervising a Desk Manager staff (hiring, training, evaluation, discipline, resolution of work concerns, termination), providing counseling and referral for residents, serving as a student conduct hearing officer and contributing to all community development efforts. Specific responsibilities vary by area. The Assistant Community Director shares on-call duty responsibilities for approximately 3,500 campus residents.
- The Cougar Village Assistant Community Director position (1 opening- Cougar Village 400s) is a half-time (20 hours), live-in position responsible for assisting the Community Director with the management of an upper-class apartment community, supporting Family Housing initiatives, and assisting with department-wide residential education initiatives. Responsibilities include: developing academic programming; implementing academic support initiatives for residents and student staff members, supporting Family Housing residents with family-specific programming, providing counseling and referral for residents, serving as a student conduct hearing officer and contributing to all community development efforts. Specific responsibilities vary by area. The Assistant Community Director shares on-call duty responsibilities for approximately 3,500 campus residents.
Required Qualifications for all open positions:
- Bachelor’s degree
- A valid Driver’s license
- Admission to an SIUE graduate program are required
Note: Candidates do not need to be accepted to a program before applying for this assistantship, but they must have already applied for admission to a graduate program
Preferred Qualifications for all positions:
- Preference will be given to first-year graduate students with previous housing experience and who are enrolled in the College Student Personnel Administration graduate program.
Additional Preferred Qualifications for:
- Cougar Village position: Preference will be given to students with previous experience working with school-aged children and/or previous experience with academic initiatives (tutoring, mentoring, working with faculty, working in living-learning communities, etc.).
Period of Appointment
This is a 50% teaching assistant appointment; 2022-2023 academic year contract with possibility of summer employment. Anticipated start date is July 18, 2022. Possibility of contract renewal based on positive performance.Remuneration
Assistant Community Directors receive a $913.92/month stipend, a tuition waver, a 2-bedroom furnished/carpeted apartment, a partial meal plan, and the opportunity to attend a regional student affairs conference.
