Research Assistantship (0852-2022)


 Must be admitted to a graduate program.
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work independently, and willing to work remotely and meet on campus once a week.
The student will be transcribing interviews with non-native English speakers and conducting data entry from photographs of handwritten documents. Any experience related to these tasks, including statistical analysis, is desirable but not required.
Students from History, Anthropology, or a health-related field are preferred.

Position Description

 The student will be assisting in the processing and analysis of data that has already been collected, for a project on medical humanitarianism and the elimination of leprosy in Uganda, c. 1927 to the present. In particular, the student will be 1) transcribing and editing transcripts of oral history interviews with medical professionals and leprosy affected people in Uganda; 2) Conducting demographic data entry from the historic patient registers and records from former leprosy hospitals, and assisting in preliminary analysis of that data; and 3) Transcribing key handwritten archival documents that are not easily legible on first reading.
