Requirements: Graduate students pursuing chemistry, biological, or environmental science or hold a BS in these fields. Graduate students with engineering degrees, but have Biochemistry or microbiology backgrounds are also welcome.
Work on a Department of Energy project about biofuel production. Optimize fermentation processes to maximize biobutanol production by cultivation of several bacterial strains. The graduate student will learn and perform various scientific methods to bacterium cultivation, and will learn analytical methods (UV-Vis, HPLC) to evaluate the conversion efficiency, and learn how to do data interpretation and write reports. In addition, the graduate student will assist the scientific leader with other projects with testing and running lab trials.
