Compliance Spotlight - Informed Consent for Human Subjects Research Projects

While Informed Consent is required for all human subjects research projects, the informed consent process may vary depending on the type of review your protocol goes through AND the type of data you are collecting.
We have published an Informed Consent FAQ that lists the different informed consent options to help researchers decide proactively which document to use. There are links to all the template documents we offer linked in the FAQ. You can also find more templates on our forms page here.
Additionally, we have made updates to our full Informed Consent template and added a sample paragraph for projects that want to use student work product in any of their presentations or publications. Any projects where PIs want to use portions of or quotes from student work in any publication must get informed consent from the student. The example language now present in the Informed Consent template will provide students with all required information so they can make an informed decision.
The templates available on the forms page always have helpful example language and are a good place to start! You can also check out our FAQ page which has lots of answers on commonly asked IRB questions.
Our office is also here to help! If you have any questions, please reach out to us at researchcompliance@siue.edu or 618-650-3010.
