The Office of Research at Illinois Institute of Technology is hosting a National Science Foundation Speakers Series, which will continue on Tuesday, April 12, with Alastair Monk’s virtual lecture.
Abstract: Within the National Science Foundation are innovation programs that support pathways for translating research results to society. This presentation will describe the economic and strategic importance of these programs, NSF’s funding philosophy, and specific information for inventors in university projects and garage squads creating the next moonshot opportunities. We will look at several programs that to include: I-Corps, an experiential entrepreneurial education program that furthers the nation’s innovation ecosystem; the PFI program that gives scientists and engineers the opportunity to increase the impact of their NSF-funded research discoveries by developing their technology into a prototype or proof-of-concept; and the SBIR/STTR programs that invests in hundreds of early stage startups, transforming scientific discovery into products and services with commercial and societal impacts.
