Compliance Highlight: SIUE’s Responsible Conduct of Research Tools
This month, ORP is highlighting available Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) education and mentoring tools. This week focuses on the new RCR Mentorship Suite.
SIUE offers a wide range of tools and resources for RCR education, training, and mentorship. Those tools include an Individual Development Plan (IDP), a Skills assessment and a new Responsible Conduct of Research Checklist. All of these can now be found in Kuali Build as one form called the RCR Mentorship Suite.
The Individual Development Plan (IDP) is a tool to assist students and post-doctoral researchers in reaching short- and long-term goals. IDPs identify both professional development needs and career objectives. A skills assessment can help identify an individual's strengths and areas that require improvement to help students reach desired professional objectives. Lastly, the RCR Tools Checklist helps faculty and student researchers ensure they have completed the appropriate training for the responsible and ethical conduct of research. The checklist is tailored to undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
The goal of incorporating all these elements into one suite is to assist mentors and students to engage in a broader dialogue about research integrity and the responsible conduct of research throughout student careers here at SIUE. By moving the form online it is easily stored and accessible for students and mentors to revisit yearly for re-evaluation.
You can find the RCR Mentorship Suite on our Forms page. To read more about the IDP or skills assessment, you can check out our RCR webpage.
The next 4 weeks of April articles will focus on all things Human Subjects Research including submission of protocols to the IRB and what to expect during review.
