Compliance Highlight: SIUE's Responsible Conduct of Research Tools
This month, ORP is highlighting available Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) education and mentoring tools. This week focuses on the mentoring tools available to faculty researchers who have graduate and undergraduate students working on a project.
Mentoring is an important aspect in RCR training and is a “foundational component of learning how to be a scientist.” The NIH publishes case studies, an RCR casebook on mentorship, a flyer on 5 ways to be an effective mentor, and a website full of resources for both researchers and trainees.
SIUE encourages development of its students and postdoctoral researchers working on scholarly activities and has several tools to help on our website.
The tools available to mentors on our RCR website are there to help with career and personal development of trainees and improve integrity of research. The tools include an RCR Training Plan with appropriate discipline-specific RCR topics, an Individual Development Plan template, a skills assessment, plus links to other resources like The Science of Effective Mentorship in STEMM and SIUE Lovejoy Library Faculty Mentoring libguide.
Next week, ORP will highlight the resources and training available to students.
